How a Whirlpool washer reports a fault
A Whirlpool washer reports genuine F#E# fault codes — written F-then-E — across the WTW top-load and WFW front-load families. A fill, drain, door, motor or control fault each has its own code, while load conditions such as suds and off-balance are flagged separately so they are not mistaken for a part failure.
The codes you will see
F8E1 means a long fill or no water — a closed valve, a kinked hose or a failed inlet valve. F8E3 is an overflow or overfill from a stuck-open inlet valve. F9E1 is a long drain — a clogged pump filter, a kinked drain hose or a failed pump. F5E1 is a door or lid switch fault and F5E2 a front-load door-lock failure. F7E1 is a motor-speed fault and F7E5 a top-load shifter actuator fault. F3E1 is a temperature-sensor fault, F3E2 a moisture-sensor fault, and F0E1 (overload) and F0E5 (excess suds) are load conditions that usually clear on their own.
What to check, and when to call
For F0E1 or F0E5, redistribute the load, reduce the detergent and use the high-efficiency type. Clean the drain-pump filter for an F9E1 and check the supply valves for an F8E1. A recurring door lock (F5E2), motor (F7E1), shifter (F7E5) or sensor (F3) code needs an experienced, independent technician with the correct genuine OEM part. See the washer error codes page or the error codes library, then book washer repair.
